Certain location can be difficult to capture such as the beach where the sun is bright and the shades are even darker. Here is a photo I took at the beach, when I try to use just a basic Level correction, if I try to make the light area darker to bring out the detail, it makes the dark area too dark and vice versa. A way to go around it is to use the ADJUSTMENT LAYERS, it allows you to manipulate how much of the photo the color correction affects and it is none destructive. Here are the important points in the video
Photoshop Tutorial – Complex Color Correcting With Adjustment – Amazing videos are here- You can select Adjustment Layers in the layer pallet, it looks like a circle that is half white and half black.- The white box next to the adjustment layer is the mask, clicking on you allows you to paint the mask. Anything that shows pure white has full effect of the adjustment layer and everything that is pure black has no effect.
- I combined three different layers, one to correct the dark area, one to correct the light area and the last one to make an overall adjustment.
- Double clicking on the adjustment layer itself will open the adjustment dialog again, this is call non-destructive editing, you are not stuck with the setting even after you press ok.
